Thomas Hardy wrote on his pessimistic views of the Victorian Age. Another author that influenced literature is Edgar Allan Poe. Poe is known as the father of the American short story and father of the detective story. To understand the literary contributions of Edgar Allan Poe, one must look at his early life, his literary life, and a summary of two of his famous works. "Edgar Allan Poe was born in Boston'' (Inglis 505) "on January 19, 1809'' (Asselineau 409). He was born to a southern family that were in a traveling company of actors (Inglis 505). His father, David Poe, was from a Baltimore family. He was an actor by profession and a heavy drinker. Soon after Edgar Allan Poe was born, he left his family. Poe's mother, Elizabeth Arnold Poe, was a widow at the age of eighteen. Two years after his birth, she died of tuberculosis (Asselineau 409). When his mother died, Poe was adopted by John Allan (Perry XI) at the urging of Mr. Allan's wife. In 1815, John Allan moved his family to England. While there, Poe was sent to private schools (Asselineau 410). In the spring of 1826, Poe entered the University of Virginia. There he studied Spanish, French, Italian, and Latin. He had an excellent scholastic record. He got into difficulties almost at once. Mr. Allan did not provide him with the money to pay for his fees and other necessities. Poe was confused and homesick. He learned to play cards and started drinking. Soon he was in debt in excess of two thousand dollars. Poe discovered that he could not depend upon Allan for financial support. His foster father refused to pay his debts, and Poe had to withdraw from the University (Asselineau 410). In May of 1827, Poe enlisted in the army as a common soldier. He did this under the name of Edgar A. Perry. He was stationed on Sullivan's Island in Charleston Harbor for over a year. Poe adapted very well to military discipline and quickly rose to the rank of regimental sergeant major. After a while, he got tired of the same daily routine involved in military life. Poe wrote regularly to Mr. Allan. He met with Mr. Allan after the death of Mrs. Allan in February of 1829. With Allan's support, he received his discharge and enlisted in West Point on July 1, l830 (Asselineau 410). While at West Point, Mr. Allan, who had remarried, continued in not providing Poe with enough money. Poe decided to have himself kicked out of school. Cutting classes and disregarding orders were his solutions. He was court-martialed for neglect of duties in January, 1831, and left West Point the following month (Asselineau 411). "Poe was great in three different fields , and in each one he made a reputation that would give any man a high place in literary history. Poe wrote great short stories, famous not only in his own country, but all over the world (Robinson V)." This scene is similar to Act 1 Scene 1 as this opening violent scene shows the hatred between the two families.Shakespeare uses dramatic devices to create interest and to engage his audience. The audience know that Romeo and Juliet secretly have got married but not all the characters do. This is dramatic irony and makes the audience feel if only, for ex ample if only Romeo had told Tybalt the real reason why he wouldnt fight him, although this may have caused the same reaction, showing that fate is important as it would have happened either way.Shakespeares language is a dramatic device and he uses it to set the scene with the opening words. For now, these hot days, is the mad blood stirring. As the day is very hot people would usually go inside and rest because it is too hot to work. This is in the first line of the scene and Benvolio is trying to get Mercutio to go inside and sleep as he is scared that if the Capulets arrive there will be a fight. You can tell from the dialogue that Mercutio is irritable and is looking for an argument as he is quarrelling with Benvolio who is meant to be his friend. Thou art like one of those fellows when indeed there is no need. Also Mercutio is saying that Benvolio is looking for an argument but is actually in effect describing his own behaviour, Come, come, thou art as hot a Jack and as soon moody to be moved.The previous scene has been very romantic and this scene is a complete contrast to that as it involves fighting and murder, the complete opposite to love.In previous scenes there have been references to the feud between the Montagues and the Capulets, and warnings that the Prince has given about fighting. So the reference to this scene is that Mercutio and Tybalt both took part in the fight and both died. As Tybalt had murdered Mercutio Romeo murdered Tybalt. Romeo was still punished for murdering Tybalt but Prince does not take his life as he has just carried out what the law commanded.The conflict between Mercutio and Tybalt at first seems to be light hearted and comedic. It seems to the audience as though even though they are fighting nothing could go very wrong. Up until Mercutio dies the fighting is not very meaningful. Still even when Mercutio is wounded it might take the audience a moment to figure it out as he still makes plays on words to make people think he isnt badly hurt. Ay, ay, a scratch, a scratch; marry, tis enough. Ask for me tomorrow, and you shall find me a grave man.But the conflict between Romeo and Tybalt is quite different from with Mercutio as Romeo does not want anything to do with the fight as Tybalt is now his family. This probably would make the audience side more with Romeo in the fight as he is coming from a loving place and he only wants peace. Whereas Tybalt just wants revenge and this makes the audience feel sympathy towards Romeo especially when he has been banished.When Benvolio recounts the story of what has happened I believe he te lls an honest story and that although he is Romeos friend he is not biased. He refers to both Mercutio and Tybalt as stout (meaning brave). As Benvolio is a Montague it is obvious that Lady Capulet will disagree with him as one of her family has been killed. She is very melodramatic about the whole situation and is trying to get as much out of the situation as possible. She believes that Romeo should be killed for Tybalts death and is trying her hardest to get her way.The way this scene is set out creates and builds the tension for the pivotal moment towards the end of it. The beginning is very light hearted although there is a sense that something bad will happen. As the scene builds so does the atmosphere and the tension reaches an uncomfortable height when Mercutio dies. The repetition of the words a plague on both your houses creates an atmosphere of guilt and of anger. The scene then builds to an even higher level of tension but this feeling is slightly different from the first as before it was just a fight but it is Romeos newly entertaind revenge so therefore the feeling isnt just anger it also has a feeling of complete loathing.Overall I feel this scene leads the audience into a false sense of security at the beginning and gets to such a point that there is no turning back and that the audience know at that point that what has been predicted in the prologue will, in fact, become true. The reason why this is such a pivotal scene is because after the death of Mercutio Romeo has such a hatred for Tybalt that he is like a different person. He also may feel some guilt for Mercutios death as it would not have happened if he had not tried to prevent it from happening.Princes speech at the end interests the audience as we do not know until this point that Mercutio is actually related to Prince. He says he will be deaf to pleading and excuses. He sounds as though he is punishing everyone harder than he would normally as Tybalt has killed a member of his family so therefore everyone must take the consequences for his loss. It also seems that he is inconsolable for the death of Mercutio saying he will not listen to excuses and basically saying no-one is going unpunished.I think this is a very well written scene because so much goes on that is substantially relevant to the story. So much action and information has been crammed into one scene and the play just wouldnt function properly as a story if these events didnt take place or took place in a different way.

The old versus combined with the old-timey feel of the photographs really gives a feeling that one has become â€Å"unstuck in time,† as Vonnegut might say. Would-be sociologists will find this book to be a treasure trove of information regarding Amish society, particularly regarding relationships. According to the book, public affection between married individuals is highly frowned upon by Amish society, as their affection for one another is too sacred to be shared with outsiders. As should not be surprising, many of the ideas are founded in Christian writings and have been espoused by Christian writers, though the Amish take things to their logical extreme: John Donne, for instance, counseled lovers not to weep at their beloved’s funeral, because the affection was too valuable to share with outsiders. The Amish have taken Donne’s advice about love after death and have applied it to love during life, which can be something of a shock when one first reads about it. Of course, modern day feminists will find much within the book that is upsetting to their cause. The Amish have taken Ephesians to heart, and strictly expect wives to submit to their husbands in all matters. There are even limits to how much children can be exposed to the school system, with the assumption that only God can provide wisdom, and everything else is foolishness. While these are basic precepts for Mormons and taken for granted in their society, it is jarring for onlookers (particularly liberal onlookers) to first see the number of restrictions that are placed on people and expressions. Fortunately, the author has a built in ethos: James Warner was born to a Mennonite household, so he has quite a bit of background regarding this issue. However, that is what makes the book disappointing on several levels: it does not concern itself with any deep revelations about Amish history, and does not serve well as an introduction to the Amish lifestyle simply because no historical context is offered. The book and its photos are put forth as a kind of â€Å"slice of life† view of the Amish†¦however, considering that it was first printed over four decades ago (and was arguably offering out-of-date content even back then), the work struggles to find a proper audience in the modern day. After all, it is not a book for the Amish: its pictures and passages are simply redundant for them, and more conservative Amish may even consider its author something of a traitor†¦a man who abandoned their private lifestyle, only to make a profit by publically invading that privacy. The book is also not intended for those wanting to fully learn about the Amish: as elaborated on above, it does not delve into their history, and offers no context for the actions taken by the Amish. The ideal audience for this book, interestingly enough, would be modern photography buffs: the pictures are quite striking, and the measures taken to make them seem more ancient than they are may very well offer the aspiring photographer new tricks for his or her toolbox. For everyone else? There are far better books about the Amish, especially for those who wish to know their full story.

So, what is the Rotavirus actually doing?? Our bodies consist of many, many cells. These cells make up our skin, our bones, our heart, liver, stomachs. Inside of every single cell is a protein synthesis factory containing a protein called eIF4G that produces the proteins that each tissue, organ and everything else needs to be whole and function correctly. When a Rotavirus infects a human being it affects the cells in the digestive tract causing severe diarrhea. The blindside movie versus the book Robert ward Chowan University This paper was prepared for [critical thinking 102, section c], taught by Professor Collins Blindside truths and lies In the movie the blindside there are many truths and differences from the book. Some of them more evident than others. In this movie/book critique I will explain the many truths and lies, to better explain the real story of Michael oher.Some key examples of the truths are the truth of big mikes parents; also what are the toughys real professions. Key examples of lies between the two stories would be how the toughys actually discovered big mike, was Michael really a timid player as portrayed in the movie, and did mike really throw a rival player a fence in a high school game. The Blind Side true story reveals that Michael’s birth mother had been addicted to crack cocaine. (ChasingtheFrog. om, 2013) this was also clearly stated in the movie, just like mikes father which in the movie we learn he was murdered but in the book we learn in detail that he was shot and thrown off an over pass. (The Blind Side: Evolution of Game 2012). other than the truths about big mikes real parents we also learn about the toughys. In reality Leanne was actually an interior decorator who eventually helped Michael decorate his own house. Sean toughy was also an owner of a major fast food chain.One of the most disputed facts was when in the movie did Michael ever have a bed to himself. We learn from a comparison of the book and movie that is was truly stated that until moving in with the toughys Michael had never had a bed to himself being he had eleven other siblings growing up. There are actually a lot of similarities in the movie and the book but most are very small and not easily noticed. What you have to understand when looking at a movie or reading a book based on the same story is that it is basically impossible to have everything due to the facts that they are ortrayed by two different direc tors perspectives , and a movie can’t last nearly as long as a book. There are many false truths about the blindside either to make a better story or the actual truth was not known at the time the movie was created. One example would be who was the first family member to make contact with Michael. In the movie we find that big mike was first approached by Leanne when she spotted him walking in the rain at night. The book says that sean senior saw him Collins volleyball game picking up old popcorn.The actuality is that Collins noticed the large man mike and told her father who began to pay for mikes lunch when he realized he did not have the money to buy it himself. Another example would be did mike actually fight in hurt village as seen in the movie. The truth is that was false to he did fight but the person who he fought was a teammate at ole miss. Ethics can be an extremely difficult subject to define and discuss as it closely related to one’s own unique moral, cultural, and spiritual values. Within the counselling profession however there is a strict ethical framework which must be adhered to. This framework has been developed over the years to insure integrity, confidentiality, and responsibility on the part of the counsellor. In this essay I will discuss briefly the importance of ethics within the counselling profession, I will also outline a few of the major ethical dilemmas that might possibly arise while working in the field of counselling. â€Å"The primary role of the counsellor is not one of merely using techniques. In a therapeutic context, transference refers to redirection of a clients feelings for a significant person to the counsellor. It can also be seen in many other forms such as extreme dependence, parentification, mistrust, hatered, and many more besides. Counter transference is defined as a redirection of a counsellors feelings toward a client. For example: a counsellor might be unconsciously seeking to fulfil his or her need for love or power in the therapeutic relationship with the client. A counsellors attunement to their own counter transference is nearly as critical as understanding transference. In either dilemma the counsellors own moral values and the ethical code of their profession and accrediting body may be jeprodized or heavily challenged.
